Are You Assured of Your Salvation? Why or Why Not?

Do you have assurance that you are saved? Why or why not?

This is something I've been thinking about lately. Mostly thinking about where my assurance lies. Every Christian thinks about this question from time to time. Personally, it is one that I have wrestled with intensely in the past. So I want to ask anyone who reads this post (whether or not you've commented here before - all readers wanted) to share a little about your personal assurance of salvation. There are two sides, those who say they have and those who don't - both are welcome to share.

1. Do you have assurance that you are saved? Why or why not?
2. How do you know?
3. How important is it for you to know whether you are going to heaven?

I will let you know my answer later. First I'd like to know what others say. Thanks!

Good questions to think through.

So yes, I am assured that I'm saved...I believed the gospel, I repented, and it is only because of Jesus that I'm heaven-bound. :) The gospel just becomes more precious to me the more God helps me to grow, as I see more and more that there really is no good in myself! I don't know if that really answers your questions though...

Romans 8:14,15 comes to mind..."For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God."

I don't know how to explain it, but I feel the Spirit's testimony that I'm God's child. He leads me to hunger for God's word and be dissatisfied with sin in my life...those things couldn't come from myself.

Let me just add this though, because when I read that over it almost sounded too "I did this and this"...even belief and repentence are of God. :)

That's okay Stephanie, I would have loved to hear what others answer to this question, that's why I asked. But thank you for participating. Yes, I will give mine in like the next post, which is sort of another one of those Scripture filled posts, so I'm waiting till I have time to look up verses.

To answer your questions:

1. Do you have assurance that you are saved?
Yes :-D

Why or why not?
By this I know that I am saved: I keep His commands. That is what I make my aim and all I seek to do because He loves me and I love Him.

2. How do you know?
Same as my second answer

3. How important is it for you to know whether you are going to heaven?
Very important. I am fully convinced that there is a hereafter, and I know there are only two places people can end up: Heaven or Hell. I want to be absolutely sure every second that if I died or if the Rapture happened, I would be with my Savior. I could not stand to be without Him forever!

Sorry for waiting so much to comment and participate!!
here are my answers:
1. Yes I'm assured of my salvation.
2. Because there are evidences in my life that I've been born again.
3. The bible says that " it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment" Heb 9:27 and after the judgment there are only two places to go, one is hell and face eternal damnation separated from God, those who've died in their sins will go there. The other place is heaven where those who've been born again, meaning those who've repented of their sins and put their faith in Christ, will be received. So as you see it is very important to know if I'm going to heaven, or better yet to know if I'm truly saved(Jesus says in the book of John that unless we are born again we cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven), because of our eternal destiny(? for lack of a better word) at sake.

What you have posted is quite timely, and my lack of assurance is the very situation of my heart. I first read it when it was the very first post at the top of the page, and I was amazed at whatever God might have in store for me - why He had allowed you to post such a post at a time like this. Anyway, my supposed comment was becoming too long, it wouldn't be right to put it in here, so I have posted my great struggle in my blog instead. Please do take time to read it and even more so, please take time to listen to God for the words He would give you to encourage/comfort/advise/rebuke me with. Thank you very much. God bless you brother.
